“We have been growing a number of Sangiovese clones at the Fighting Gully Road site since 2007. Conditions leading up to the 2017 vintage made us feel we had the potential to create a truly unique wine made from only one clone. Sourced in the late 1990s from long-time friend Paolo di Marchi’s Isole e Olena vineyard in Chianti, his Cepparello gave me inspiration to create Australia’s first truly great Sangiovese wine. The grapes were hand-harvested, de-stemmed; and fermented using indigenous yeasts in an Italian-made French oak fermenter. The wine was aged in new and one-year-old barriques for 18 months prior to bottling, and aged for a further six months prior to release. Extremely limited production – 600 bottles.”
