The Feelings & The Story:
“The first vintage of Knowing felt like the promise of something, even though it was such a tiny amount. Most people said it would be very difficult to make wine like that out of 500kg, but there was no stopping us. Growing and making a wine allows a mutual understanding, when earth and human collide. I was lucky enough to almost triple the volume of wine in 2025, without sacrificing quality. That promise became truth. I don’t know how many more years I have on this property, but what I do know is I’m bringing the ancestors before me back to the light – who once planted this variety here on limestone – in a way that Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are seen by modern producers today. Some may call me a black sheep, but I think I’m just following the path that once was, and I’m being rewarded for it.” —Sierra Reed
Tasting Notes Through Feelings:
“Let me start by saying, I’m going to repeat myself with aroma and taste! When you make a wine that speaks so deeply of place, there is an undeniable pattern and that in itself is the most difficult thing to capture.
On the nose, this wine smells like the air it grows in. Salty, crushed rock, grassy, metallic earth. Or maybe that’s just what I smell while I’m growing it, walking each one of its rows and passing my hands over the vines, weaving the soul of these plants into my DNA. In the glass, this wine smells of every white flower, that I wanted to remember smelling or searched for in a perfume.
This wine defies the naysayers of minerality. When I was a young girl, growing up by the ocean in San Diego, I used to chase my boyfriend while he chased waves. I always stayed ashore, Vogue magazine in hand, zero intention of getting wet. I remember he used to always talk about offshore; the kind of wave that almost misted me on the sand. If I could capture this smell and that feeling, it would be the true essence of this wine.
On the palate, this wine has line and movement. A dance that is very familiar when it comes to my Rieslings. Something I almost take for granted, in how easily I can achieve it. Sweetness rushes in, while the feeling of the sharpest ever sparkling water, sprays the mouth like hundreds and thousands, letting you know limestone has a huge hand in this wine. Meyer lemon, Warheads, underripe everything, brain freeze; or maybe just a silver bullet.” —Sierra Reed
